If you are the parent to a college-bound student, there are a number of great gifts you can give to your son or daughter that can help them through their newly-independent university life. The goal for the gifts is to blend form with functionality so that anything you buy will appeal to your new college student while still being fully functional. Here is a look at some great gift ideas for those college-bound individuals.
No.1- Emergency Kit. Not many college students are usually prepared for the unexpected and usually don't have things like bandaids, gauze, and first aid cream on hand. It's pretty inevitable that they will eventually have a need for one or all of these items. Getting them a first aid kit will help alleviate this need, plus there are a number of kits available that aren't in those tacky red boxes but a nice leather or canvas bag instead.
No.2- Bedding and Bath Accessories. Your new college student will be in need of a few towels, sheets, pillows, and blankets to outfit their dorm room. Typically, dorm room beds are XL Twin beds which require special sheets. If you aren't sure what colors or styles they would like, opt for a gift card to Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Target, or even Walmart.
No.3- Toiletries. A gift basket full of back up toiletries will be an extremely fun and functional gift, especially once your teen realizes how expensive laundry detergent, shampoo, and conditioner can run. Your basket can include: soap, face wash, shaving cream, tooth paste, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, tissues, and mouthwash.
No.4- Prepaid Credit Cards. While your new student may not be able to get a credit card yet, that's not such a bad thing. Opting for a prepaid credit card will give your teen the convenience and security of using plastic to pay for transactions, without the fear of accruing debt or interest payments. Because your teen will only be able to spend the amount that has been placed on the cared, there is no way it can affect credit negatively or get them in over their head before they have a good concept of financial responsibility.
